Project Overview
John worked as a Freelance Senior Quantity Surveyor and subsequently commercial lead on a £15m clean-water upgrade programme for United Utilities. The programme comprised works across multiple operational sites and was delivered under an NEC3 Option A priced contract.
Challenges
The multi-site nature of the programme required consistent commercial and contractual management across separate work fronts, together with reliable forecasting and reporting of the developing commercial position. The role also required regular coordination between the contractor’s commercial and delivery teams and the client.
Contribution
John carried out the day-to-day contractual and commercial management of the programme, including monthly cost and value reporting and the preparation and monitoring of quarterly forecasts. The role included representing the contractor at weekly technical, progress and commercial meetings with the client, together with managing and developing a graduate quantity surveyor.
Results
The role provided consistent commercial and contractual management across the multi-site programme, supported by regular cost-and-value reporting and forward forecasting. The appointment followed directly from the earlier Morecambe commission, providing continuity of senior commercial support across successive United Utilities projects.
