Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about Mossbridge’s commercial management, NEC support, fixed-fee reviews and how we work.

Can Mossbridge act as the NEC Project Manager?

Yes. John Moss is an NEC4 Accredited Project Manager with extensive experience of administering NEC contracts from both client and contractor perspectives. Mossbridge can undertake the NEC Project Manager role or provide senior support to an existing project team.

Do you work for Clients and Contractors?

Yes. Mossbridge supports Employers, clients, contractors and multidisciplinary delivery teams. Experience on both sides of the contractual relationship provides a practical understanding of how commercial and contractual decisions affect the wider project.

Do you provide traditional project management services?

Not as a general project management consultancy. Mossbridge focuses on NEC Project Manager services, commercial management, contract administration and commercial assurance, particularly where projects require experienced contractual and commercial input.

Can you support a single compensation event or a wider backlog?

Yes. Support can range from reviewing one significant compensation event to helping a project team work through a wider backlog. Reviews can cover entitlement, quotation, Defined Cost, programme effect, supporting records and implementation.

Do you offer fixed-fee reviews?

Yes. Where the requirement can be clearly defined, Mossbridge offers fixed-fee reviews with the scope, information requirements, outputs and fee agreed in advance. Current reviews include the NEC Contract Health Check, Compensation Event Review & Recovery, and Cost, Forecast & Defined Cost Assurance.

How do retainers work?

A retainer provides ongoing access to senior commercial and NEC support for an agreed period or level of input. It can suit projects that need experienced support available when required without appointing a full-time resource.

Can you support public-sector organisations?

Yes. Mossbridge can support public-sector clients as well as private organisations, subject to the organisation's procurement and appointment requirements. Support can include pre-contract, NEC administration, commercial assurance and project-specific reviews.

Do you provide claims consultancy?

Yes, although the emphasis is on resolving commercial and contractual issues before they become formal disputes. Support can include entitlement and quantum review, analysis of project records, preparation of commercial positions and support during negotiation or dispute resolution.

Can you work alongside an existing commercial or project team?

Yes. Mossbridge can work alongside an established team to provide additional senior capacity, independent challenge or specialist NEC and commercial support. The aim is to strengthen the existing team rather than replace it unnecessarily.

Do you provide on-site as well as remote support?

Yes. On-site support can be provided across the North West, with remote support available more widely across the UK. The appropriate arrangement depends on the project, the requirement and the level of ongoing involvement needed.

What information is needed before a review starts?

It depends on the review, but typically includes the contract and Scope, relevant communications and instructions, change or compensation event records, programme information and the supporting cost, forecast or payment records. Mossbridge will identify the specific information required before starting.

Can you support both pre-contract and post-contract work?

Yes. Pre-contract support can include procurement strategy, tender review, risk allocation, Scope, contract amendments and mobilisation. Post-contract support can include NEC administration, commercial management, compensation events, payment, cost control, forecasting and dispute avoidance.
