Project Overview
John worked as a Senior Consultant on a maintenance upgrade at AstraZeneca’s Macclesfield site, involving design and construction works across electrical and instrumentation, mechanical, pipework and builders’ work. The works were delivered through an NEC3 Term Service Contract Option A, with the appointment providing commercial management support to the contractor.
Challenges
The project required effective commercial management of multidisciplinary maintenance works within an operational environment and an unfamiliar contract form for the contractor. The initial review identified a need to strengthen the contractor’s approach to valuation, change management, contractual entitlement and cost recovery while improving how those processes operated between the parties.
Contribution
John took responsibility for the day-to-day commercial management of the contract and management of the commercial team. Alongside the operational role, he reviewed and audited the contractor’s valuation and change procedures and advised on contract strategy and cost recovery. Recommendations were developed to protect contractual entitlement while supporting a more collaborative approach to administering the contract.
Results
Clearer processes for valuation, change and contractual entitlement gave the commercial team a more structured basis for assessing work and recovering the value properly due under the NEC Term Service Contract. The role also strengthened the link between site records, change administration and commercial reporting.
